The best one I know is the New French Cafe, downtown-- actually, I think that's the only one I know. There are some very good bakeries that have French pastries, however-- I'd suggest the New French Bakery (right next to the Cafe) or Turtle Bread in Southwest Minneapolis. Forepaugh's in St. Paul is also good (or at least was a couple of years ago). Chez Paul was acceptable for bistro food, but I don't see them listed, have they gone out of business? Mike

For French, da winnahs are (in order) Café Un Deux Trois, New French Café, Forepaugh's (in St. Paul), Chez Collette, Tulips. You owe yourself at least one breakfast at Al's in Dinkytown (off the Mpls campus of the U of M); it's an, um, er, experience not to be missed. While some go apey over their hashbrowns, I don't care for them -- they cook the spuds first. Egg & I is also on the breakfast list. Gotta have a Juicy Lucy at Matt's Tavern on 38th (?) and Cedar in south Mpls. Careful! Don't burn your mouth on the oozing cheese. Matt's is a neighborhood place. Ribs? We're partial to the Market Bar-B-Que on 14th & Nicollet downtown (Nicollet Mall ends at about 12th). They're dry smoked, sauce on the side. Works for me. The onion rings are plentiful but nothing to write home about. First on their list was Famous Dave's -- big chain around here. High buck? D'Amico Cucina (downtown). Pizza? I like the chicken/white pizza at Broadway (the original one <I think> near the river in north Mpls. Many of the 'best' on the readers' poll are chains. Go figure. Wait a sec, let me take that back! The spread is not billed as the "best" restaurants; it's the readers' "favorites." Bring the bi-carb. :-) MSP mag also mentions their "exclusive guide to the Twin Cities' 100 Best Restaurants" at their new web site, www.mspmag.com. I haven't looked at the site. I don't work for them. I don't subscribe to the mag. Facing 6" of new snow due today, I repeat The Minnesotans' Mantra: "We love it here, we love it here, we love it here!" -Barb
