Tons of great restaurants! Traffic Jam & Snug, Fishbones, Rattlesnake Club, Cadieux Cafe... Traffic Jam: downtown Detroit, near WSU. Plenty of vegetarian, huge portions, reasonable Fishbones: downtown, in Greektown. Can be packed, but great jambalaya. Rattlesnake Club: the very best upscale restaurant in town. Expensive but worth it. Cadieux Cafe: where else can you go feather bowling between courses? Huge bucket of steamed mussels - cheap. Xochimilco: cheap, good, fast Mexican food. Original Pancake House: Grosse Pointe, Birmingham, Southfield? big line on Sunday morning. Sweet Loraine's: truly inventive food, great atmosphere. Ann Arbor is also packed with great restaurants. Good luck.

Try crossing the river to the Tunnel Barbeque in Windsor Ontario. They have the best ribs in Canada. It is just to the right of the exit of the tunnel under the Detroit River. You can't miss it.

Article: 23121 of rec.food.restaurantsWhile I don't think The TBQ compares to the great BBQ places I used to frequent in Oakland Calif, it is good and *is* unique. ALso their cole slaw is the best I've had anywhere (vinegar style). The TBQ is also Windsor native (and current Chi. Blackhawk enforcer) Bob Probert's fave place to eat when he's home. The Whitney is an elegant restaurant. The food is innovative and excellent. RS
The Muellers Seafood House downtown,(the original) is wonderful. Had dinner there twice. Top of the line service, excellent food and portions, and if the waiter suggests an entree, it is guaranteed to be good. Dessert at the Whitney on Woodward Ave would top off the evening wonderfully, but bring the credit cards, both places are expensive. If you are in the northern suburbs, there is a small Italian restuarant in the mall at 14 mile and John R, don't remember the name, it is opposite the movie theatre inside the mall, but the pasta carbonara was great. (casual clothes) not expensive.
Carl's ChopHouse near the Tiger Stadium. (Other side of freeway.) Old establishment, career servers, bartenders. Oldtime Primerib joint. Not too pricey. Lotsa pride still. A regular guy's London ChopHouse.
I *think* the writer meant to say Joe Muer's seafood rest. It *is* a Detroit landmark (at Gratiot and Vernor mins from downtown).
