Cancun. The big pink hotel (?) next to the Oasis (possibly the Fiesta Americana) has really good cinnamon French toast -- don't order the big ol' breakfast buffet, ick. Carlos' Fajitas is really good -- the onions are out of this world. I think it's on the isthmus that connects the city to the island. All the shrimp we had down there was *incredible*. Yum. (Except for one night when my boyfriend ordered it tempura style. What did he expect?) Stick with scampi or skewered & grilled shrimp. There's a pretty good wood-oven pizza place in the city. I don't remember the name of it, though. As far as must do's, ... I didn't think the snorkeling at Xel-Ha (sp?) was that great -- the water seemed greasy and the facilities were gross (to be expected). Tulum, an ancient Mayan place overlooking the ocean, is ok -- it's not *exciting*, but it's fun to walk around, climb on stuff, listen to the guide tell stories (the stories arent' always the greatest -- it's the delivery). Tulum reminded me of the Nancy Drew book set in Peru, with bad guys chasing everyone around the ancient ruins (that was my favorite book as a kid). We went on a Catamaran trip to Isla Mujares, which started out really fun, because I love boats. There was plenty of room, they served beer and margaritas, it was a gorgeous day...and then I started feeling really nauseated, which lasted the rest of the day. :-( Bring Dramamine even if you've never had a problem before. Last year I went on a cruise that stopped in Cozumel. We went snorkeling at Chankanaab Lagoon, which was fun -- not crowded at all, then went to Carlos & Charlies' for lunch and ended up spending hte afternoon there drinking. Fun place. That day was the most fun I've ever had in the Carribean. When we left Carlos & Charlie's to go back to our ship, the taxi driver was really funny -- he was honking the horn to the tune of the Mexican hat dance song, and screaming and singing. Putting on an act for the tourists, but it was fun :-)

Cancun recommendations wanted
Cancun, Mexico: It's been nearly 5 years, but here's a couple of the places we liked: Los Almendros. Good Yucatan restaurant, but a little off the path. Try Pollo Ticuleno, Sopa de Lima. About $25 for dinner for 2 with 3 or 4 beers each. (Maybe that's why we liked it? :-) Pericos. Good Tex-mex, prices, service, and portions. Fun place. Downtown Cancun. Drink a few slammers. The seafood was quite good, especially the Shrimp. Have fun. Steve Casagrande [email removed]
