I never liked the clams at Woodmans. The Clam Box is much better. Sidenote - On a report last summer on Cronicle, Mike Barnacle reported on three places for clams and the clear winner was the Clam Box. (Woodmans also said they still use LARD for frying - maybe that explains why the clams taste so heavy and greasy.)

Woodman's Really???

I remain rather fond of Woodman's, although depending on the level of attention of the high-school students behind the frahkell you might get light lovelies of which you can easily eat a pint or two or the ones you recall, whose main charm is that they coat your mouth with grease so you don't want more than 2 or 3 clams at the most (saving many hours on that Stairmaster or Nordic Trak). In that area I found the Clam Box up the road a few miles to be more than acceptable (a little austere - NOT ENOUGH salt and grease) and Farnham's quite good (but there, the xenophobic and John-Birchist slogans on the walls put me off my feed a bit). JN> Revere Beach. Anyone know what place I speak of? Kelly's - now expanded with a gigantic new location on Rte 1 in Saugus. Last time I went I felt it had gone downhill. The good news is that I took some out-of-towners to Angie's in Revere, which used to be great!! and then slid to okay... but seems to have improved again quite a bit (not to its previous heights). * KingQWK 1.05 # 187 *
