We were on the North Shore last Saturday, and decided to go to Weylu's on Route 1 on our way home. We'd seen the huge pagoda roof sticking up, and the major landscaping to build the building, and had wanted to try it for a while. We figured that it would be a fun meal with the kids.
We'll never go back.
The service was horrible, and the food was worse. The Lo Mein was inedible, as it had no flavor other than stale garlic powder. The chef must have had the cap fall off of the garlic powder bottle as he sprinkled, but served it to us anyway. It was the worst tasting chinese food I have ever gotten anywhere, anytime. The other entrees were OK, but mediocre, at best. One of them was supposed to contain (according to the menu) assorted chinese vegetables. It had a few small slices of celery in it.
The table we were seated at apparently had no waiter assigned to it. After a long time, we asked a couple of the waiters milling about for help. They obviously didn't give a shit. They mumbled something and split. We finally got someone to help us.
We got soup (pretty good, actually) but were interrupted in the middle of eating it when our entrees arrived. There wasn't enough room for everyhing, so the table was crammed. The dirty soup bowls stayed on the table as we ate the entrees. Never did the waiter return to ask us if everthing was OK, so we didn't have any opportunity to return the Lo Mein. We had no soy sauce, and couldn't get any, as our waiter had disappeared for the duration.
The busboy finally came to clear the table. He asked if he should wrap the Lo Mein to go. We tried to tell him it was no good, but he didn't speak english, so he didn't understand us. He just nodded and smiled and left.
The bill was much higher than we normally pay for a chinese meal at the excellent local place we normally go to.
Oh well. The bill had a section for comments on the food and service. I circled "Poor" with respect to both, and filled in my name and phone number. I have not received a phone call asking me about it yet. It looks like they have given up. We left around 7 on a Saturday, and the place was only about half full. They should just shut it down.Massachusetts
