Last summer we went to a really neat neighborhood restaurant in Boston on Columbus Ave.; Claremont Cafe. The food was creative and very well done and the deserts were even better (and I don't usually eat dessert). Thought we had made a discovery until we found out that that they had beaten Helmsley's for Best Restaurant in South Boston in the local press.

And which local press was that? I don't know many people who would seriously claim that the Claremont Cafe was better than Hamersley's Bistro. Sigh. I suppose it was probably Boston Magazine's "Best of Boston" awards. Since this isn't a group about magazine awards, I won't comment on them, except that as a whole, I find these awards to be relatively unreliable (probably close to right around 50% of the time) and incredibly numerous (it seems like nearly every business which sticks around for more than a couple of years wins in some category).
