 : G'Vanni's ($$$) -- North End

If there is one place you should try (again), it is G'Vanni's, located
at 2 Prince Street...yes, the $$$ is true, but I took my roommate to
dinner there last night, and it was a definite 2 thumbs up! They apparently
have a new chef there and I was able to chat with him...real friendly
 guy-- his name is Tom.  But, friendly doesn't make a good restaurant;
let me just say that the food is consistently excellent there...he's
got a completely new menu, with a great deal more emphasis on QUALITY
seafood and meats...Tom is a saute chef from the CIA (Culinary Institute
of America)...just came to town about 2 months ago. Anyway, I divulge
by reporting my small talk with him...the decor is different from the
last time I went there, but the service remains prompt and professional.
We started out with a very well prepared cream of mushroom soup...sprinkled
with fresh basil- very flavorful w/o being overly heavy on the cream...I
then ordered a Seafood Pescatori, and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! HUGE (7 ct.)
shrimp, lobster tail, mussels, clams, etc. in a deliciously fragrant
garlic-herb wine sauce, poured over a fresh bed of linguini. My roommate had
an 8 ounce aged and marianated filet mignon steak, served with fresh asparagus,
and he looked extremely content :)
We both had a glass of house wine (white and red respectively) which
was of good quality...not exceptional, but certainly, my white was fruity and
dry. Desert was the ultimate cap for the meal, as I had one of the BEST
raspberry cannolli's I've ever tasted in the North End... raspberry sauce
draped over the cannolli, which was filled with fresh raspberry filling
and lined with whipped cream...cappacuinno and raspberry canollies...what a
way to end a very enjoyable evening of fine dining! Now, the damage...well,
this place wasn't cheap, and when the smoke cleared, we had eaten $50 a
head, but for an occasion like this, the money was well spent, in my opinion.
Oh, and like most restaurants in this price range, we had free transportation
in the stretch Mercedes Limo to and from our apartment...All in all, I'd
give this restaurant a solid 8.5 out of 10, considering all factors.
If you've any questions or comments, feel free to contact me! Hope this
helps some of us Bostonians out there looking for a nice evening on the
 town! :)
