The Elephant Walk, a very good French/Cambodian restaurant in
 >Union square, has some dishes which are marked vegetarian.

The Elephant Walk is a great place for vegetarians. In addition to the
regular vegetarian dishes, they will make many of the other dishes
vegetarian on request, substituting tofu for meat. The first poster already
mentionned the India Palace which is another favorite. They will also make
some dishes that are not on the menu, like my favorite, saag aloo.

I don't trust Mexican restaurants, really; many put meat in the beans and
chicken broth in the rice. I'm not a strict vegetarian (I'm not even a
vegetarian these days) but I'd worry about most Mexican places if I were
 religious about it.

Has anyone here been to the Middle Eastern restaurant that's in Union
 Square?
