Yes, there is!!! The Village Inn in Essex, which has outside dining on a patio, last time I was there. The Village Inn has been a wonderful place for seafood in Essex, and I have eaten there for the past 25+ years. Others have also recommended The Village Inn in this ng before.

Another place is Callahan's, across the street from Woodman's (more or less), but I haven't eaten there in 35+ years, but back then it was great! How's that for an out of date review? My grandparents would stop and eat there when I was a kid. The spread for the crackers was very good, as I recall. %^D

While, I love the clam-cakes at Woodman's, I often find that their fried food can be greasy, usually a function of trying to put too much product through the deep freer, causing the cooking temperature to be too low. I have also eaten there for over 25+ years.

No matter where you finally go, the Essex clams are the best in the World. Be sure, to get at least a side dish of fried clams to share, even if you're all eating lobster. %^D

Glad you found this place! This is where my advisor always takes his cohort of poor, hungry grad students when we're up on Cape Ann at his summer place. They've been particularly accommodating of us at the outdoor tables as the evening dragged on, letting us stay past closing to finish our post-prandial scotch in plastic cups -- no better way to enjoy a summer evening.
