To those who have sent it, thanks for the e-mail. I am reading only a small subset of this group (today, 3 messages came through), and my site is sitting there scratching its head wondering where all the articles went. Last night before Symphony, we went to Arirang on Mass. Ave., hoping for perhaps a bite of sushi ... discovered that all they were serving was (ta da!) the buffet. This is okay: since I'm trying to make the mortgage all by myself these days, I've been eating one meal a day. So two big platefuls of food for $7.50 is okay by me (and, of course, if it hadn't been the Mahler 9th I might have been tempted to eat more). The food was decent and plentiful. Coke or ginger ale is $1.00. No booze. The vegetables are quite nice. The cabbage kimchi was excellent, and the carrot and hot chiles one quite pleasant. Also there - a zucchini salad, beansprout salad, raw (or just this side thereof) broccoli, turnip kimchi, and a couple of other tasty things. Hot dishes were hit and miss, so I'll tell you what I liked. Boiled squid was yummy. Chicken wings in a sweetish but hot sauce were good, probably because the hordes of students ate tons of them and they kept coming out. Mung noodles were just delicious (these are the transparent brown guys) - peppery and savory, and I ate about a pound of them. On my first plate, they were thick ones; by the time I got round to refills, they were thin ones, done the same way. I liked the thick ones better. Fried rice was palatable - seemed to be regular rice with a bit of mirin and soy tossed on. Lo mein noodles were okay. Meats were okay, but considerably fatty. A major oddity was the fried assortment. Big chunks of fried ?taro (or some odd variety of potato). Fried scallop-flavored things (not scallops) and fake crab. What the heck, protein. If I went back, I'd probably eat mostly vegetarian, except for the squid. * KingQWK 1.05 # 187 *
