There are none in Kendall Square that I know of. There are several in Cambridge. Tokyo on Fresh Pond Parkway is probably my favorite, although there are several people on this newsgroup who like to diss it because they claim they got bad vibes from the hostess. Koto near the rotary (about a block from Tokyo) used to be quite good, but seems to have fallen off some. There are several noodle/tempura/sushi stalls in Porter Exchange in Porter Square, plus one full-service restaurant. Those are ones that I've been to, but there are probably half a dozen others. When you say "right across the bridge in Boston", I have to ask which bridge ;-) Boston's got a number of Japanese restaurants worthy of note. Nowadays my favorite is Ginza on the Boston/Brookline line (St. Mary's and Beacon). They have an extensive menu and consistently high quality -- I was there for dinner Saturday, and the sake ochazuke and raw fish was just fine. Takeshima in Coolidge Corner is also consistently good. Yoshi on Boylston Street near Exeter (Copley) was great the last time I was there. And there's perhaps half a dozen others -- Gyuhama, Miyako, Tatsukichi, Sakurabana, etc. -- that I haven't sampled recently enough to give an opinion on.

In Cambridge, I enjoy Kotobukiya in the Porter Exhcange Building (next to the Cottonwood) and Jae's Cafe in Inman SQ. Buen Provecho! Meredith Cambridge, MA
