I do not usually go out of my way for Mexican food, but I was very very impressed by Jalapeno's, Main St. in Gloucester. I think I'm going to head to Gloucester more often for interesting dining. There's a bunch of restaurants located on Cape Ann's northern-most area worth trying. This is Mexican food, done extremely well. Fresh ingredients, interesting menu, nice atmosphere and very reasonable prices. My only complaint, and a minor one, was that the chips were not served hot...nor were they made there. Try a glass of their home-made Sangria. And believe it or not, the Mexican wine was excellent. I was shocked. For a party of four with a ton of food, more than a few Mexican beers and a $ 23 bottle of Mexican wine (a Meritage like blend I think), the bill came to only $ 125. Now this I don't understand.... We left Jalapeno's in Gloucester around 8pm Saturday night with the restaurant maybe half filled. Then we drove down the coastal route (route 127) where we passed the other Mexican restaurant in Magnolia the Edgewater. The Edgewater had a waiting line outside. Nothing against the Edgewater, but I would have to say that Jalapeno's is vastly superior. The only advantage to the Edgewater is that they don't have a liquor license so you can bring your own wine, which of course can save you a few bucks. John Gallagher

I agree with John there are quite a few good restaurants in Cape Ann. One of the best is the Thyme's on the Square in East Gloucester. The quail salad is fab. They do not have a liquor licence yet so BYOB.
