It was one of those restaurants that demanded careful ordering. The person who usually accompanied me usually ordered their beef with curry sauce rice plate, which was good if you could overlook the fact that it was far from authentic. I usually opted for a pan-fried noodle dish. (I have a weakness for pan-fried noodles.) Sometimes, we would be accompanied by an immigrant friend who invariably got a duck & dumpling soup by ordering in Chinese. It wasn't great, but it was good enough to make me regret resisting my mother's attempts to teach me Chinese. I never asked him to write down the name of the dish for me, because I wanted to be reminded of the trade I had made as a child. (I still think it was a good trade, but I see the element of sacrifice more clearly now.) I don't recommend it, because I haven't been there in a long time, because it attracted a lot of rowdy drunks, and because its menu was like a minefield, but I think I could get an edible meal there.
