Elephant Walk - Boston

 After all the raves about the Elephant's Walk, in Somerville (outside
 Boston), I tried it last time I was in town. I was disappointed.

 The food quality was quite good, but not good enough to make it worth the
 trip from Boston. And I had hoped that the French/Cambodian merge they
 advertised would be more than just some French food and some Cambodian food
 (there are two separate menus). The French side of the menu was downright
 boring (no creativity at all), and the Cambodian was good but also less
 than fascinating. Prices were higher than at some of Boston and
 Brookline's really good Thai places, which have comparable or better,
 similar style food to the Cambodian menu.

 Elephant's Walk wasn't bad, it just wasn't good enough to justify (1) the
 drive from Boston; (2) the raves on rec.food.resaurants; or (3) the prices.

 My votes for Boston are still:
 (1) Ethnic/Cheap:
 Thai places along Commonwealth Ave. near BU;
 Asmara (Ethiopian), Mass. Ave, Central Square, Cambridge;
 Quality India Restaurant, Kenmore Square, Boston

 (2) More expensive:
 Cottonwood Cafe, Mass. Ave., Porter Square, Cambridge;
 Cornucopia, Downtown Boston
 Back Bay Bistro, Boylston St., Boston
 798 Main, 798 Main Street, Cambridge
 Michaela's, East Cambridge

 Funny. I thought it was worth the drive. I'm from Indiana.

 I've done my share of Thai cooking, and was expecting to get just
 that. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by the distinctiveness of
 the cuisine. It's not often a restaurant can surprise me.

 The prices seemed quite reasonable to me. Entrees were about $10.
 As for driving, nobody drives in Boston. That's why there wasn't any
 traffic and an abundance of parking spaces when i was there last summer.
