Well, I had success this weekend. The hubby picked me up at the airport and we headed into East Boston to have a late lunch at Uncle Pete's BBQ- I think it's Day Square? It's the exit off 1A right after the airport (the one where they sometimes close the gate and make you go back and u-turn to get to the tunnel.) Uncle Pete's was closed so we tried a little hole in the wall Hispanic restaurant called La Frontera. Only a few tables, all of which were filled by people speaking Spanish, which was a good sign. Greg had the tostada plate with rice and beans for $5 or so and I had the tostada/taco combo, also about $5. The tostadas themselves very quite tasty and expertly fried. I had chicken, which wasn't dry but was a bit bland. Greg's shredded beef was a bit overdone. Both plates were piled high with shredded iceberg lettuce and a bit of salsa, topped with sliced hardboiled eggs and queso anejo. My tacos were 2 soft shells with the chicken, lettuce and salsa on top. Again, good tortillas made it quite tasty. Greg's rice and beans were fine but nothing special. Everyone was drinking the same thing that looked sort of like iced coffee and the waitress brought us one when we asked what it was- I think it's spelled orchata? I'm not sure what it was but it was quite tasty with a nice tast of something like cinnamon, although I thought it was too sweet. Across the street was a little grocery called El Sol, I picked up a card- it's at 353 East Chelsea Street. Chock full of everything you need to cook Mexican, Columbian or Salvadorian food. We loaded up on Ancho Chiles ($1.79 for 3 oz.) and Guajillo Chiles (~$2.00 for 3oz). They also had Chiles Arbol. No chipolte, though. (We had already picked some up at Star Market anyway). We also got great tortillas. The fridge had a some interesting cheeses and we got some queso anejo. The whole square is well worth the trip if you're around the airport.
