Cambridge Brewing Company -- Review

1 post · Nov 27, 1999

It has been a while since we visited the Cambridge Brewing Company at One
Kendall Square, but this afternoon we had such an extraordinary meal there
that I must post an accolade.

Although the menu seemed to have fewer choices than I recall from past visits,
the selection was quite adequate. Everything was beautifully served, starting
with a slice of lemon in the ice water.

We began with a mixed green salad with a good variety of fresh ingredients.
The raspberry vinaigrette dressing was a wonderful blend of sweet and sour.
The portion was ample for sharing.

I had scrumptious chicken curry with vegetables served over a bed of couscous.
I thought the spices were wonderfully done, although some tastes might find it
a bit too strong. The rim of the plate was artistically decorated with
drizzled threads of a peppery hot Asian sauce that allowed raising the heat as
 desired.

My wife ordered a baked salmon dish, with a lime and cilantro sauce, that was
served with a basmati rice patty and a beautiful mound of fresh, perfectly
steamed broccoli, shredded carrots, and shredded beets. She declared the dish
 to be wonderful.

My cousin had a 1/2 pound burger with cheddar cheese and mushrooms that she
 rated as excellent.

The meal was accompanied by a pumpkin ale that we found delightful.

For desert, we had pumpkin pie served with caramel sauce and cinnamon-spiced
 whipped cream (the real thing!)

The preparation and presentation of everything was excellent, and certainly a
bargain as well. The entrees were priced at only $7.99 and the salad was
 $3.99.
