Don't miss Yokohama in Brookline Village if you're a sushi addict. They're right next to the New Age bookstore across from the Smokehouse and easily accesible by MBTA. They don't have a liquor license yet, but there's a liquor store right next to the nearby CVS. I've been there 3 times: each time the fish was amazingly fresh and the service was top-notch. The hosts (I forgot their names) are always very responsive when I pester them with questions of protocol; I didn't feel quite so bad when I heard their stories of people eating sushi with a knife and fork, putting Sweet and Low in their green tea, etc. Acoustics are good also; it's a smallish place but even when full you can hear their Japanese music playing softly in the background. No Jae's-like din here. For the intrepid, they serve fugu. You have to ask for it though. Plus, they serve the best green tea ice cream I've ever had. Another dessert (forgot the name) has a sorbet/ice-cream center with a thin coating of a rice-based substance that looks like velour. I'm surprised I haven't seen this place mentioned. It's definitely my favorite. Shino Express on Newbury gets honorable mention for having good sushi *and* being open on Christmas Eve. -- Jeff P.S. Avoid Maki Sushi in Montreal (south of St. Catherine, in the Peel St. area).
