Someone mentioned this in some thread and I thought I would send a message
about a recent meal we had there. In short, it was bad, not horrible, but
 bad.

My friend had the catfish which was somewhat dry and served with some tired
looking veggies. My wife had the grilled chicken that, while a good size,
was also dry. I had the sandwich sampler and was terribly disappointed since
 I'm a sandwich-a-holic. Esp the pulled pork. The 3 mini-wiches were served
on rather stale anemic buns (tiny ones, at that). The 3 choices were
chicken, pulled pork and beef brisket. The brisket was so overdone as to be
tough and the pulled pork and the chicken were both edible but lacked any
 distinguishing attributes.

The only thing that all three mini sandwiches had in common was the fact
that all tasted like they had been injected with massive amounts of
hickory/mesquite smoke. Unbelievably high quotient on the smoke; I've never
tasted anything like it even from a bad restaurant that adds liquid smoke to
a recipe looking for BBQ flavor. It was on the overwhelming side, even for
me, someone who loves BBQ and smoke, if truth be told.

So, in short (and not ribs, mind you) I would not recommend this place. I'm
sure it will survive, unfortunately, because of all the BU students who
frequent the joint and those who will take their parents there looking for
real BBQ. But the rest of you should just go to Redbones or Blue Ribbon.

I tried their pork ribs. They weren't baby backs. As for the sauce,
they didn't ask me. Personally, I prefer my ribs dry rather than
sauced. The ones I think I got were Memphis ribs.

 >I haven't been to The Blue Ribbon, so I'll have to try it-- sounds great!

There's a good reason they won the cookoff for ribs held recently.

The Blue Ribbon has two locations, one on Washington St. in West Newton,
and one in Arlington. I go to the first one in West Newton because
it's closest. The only thing I don't like that I've tried there is
the jerk chicken (I didn't like the spices).

BTW, the desserts at the Blue Ribbon are great. Try the Pecan pie, or
the peach cobler. At $2.50 these are another hidden treat and I've
paid much more for pie/dessert that wasn't as good.
