The barbecue is very good, and they take their beer seriously (20-odd taps last I counted, with a good and changing representation of New England breweries). This is one of two places in the area I go when I'm feeling particularly carnivorous, the other being Pampas in Cambridge. Mind you, barbecue is one of those recipes given by God to only one place on Earth, with all other renditions just being poor imitations. Fortunately, I have no idea which place that is, which saves me from many an argument. -David

Anybody got a review of Redbone's in Davis Square

The place is Tom's Convenience and BBQ on Getwell Road in Memphis. It's a dumpy convenience store with a big smoker sticking out the side of the building. Three fat ladies sell everything from BBQ Balogna Sandwiches for $1.00 to full racks of ribs. The Smoked Pork Chop Sandwich is great and the big seller is "Jumbo Hot", a pulled pork sandwich with 1/2 pound of pulled pork on a giant bulkie roll with a scoop of cole slaw on the bottom and hot sauce on the top for $2.95. Take out only of course.
