-> Mary is correct that the name of the quirky little french place is
-> Martick's. I haven't been there in years. Perhaps Don and I (with
-> SO's, of course) should make a trek up to Baltimore so as to provide
-> dc.dining with a review.

     I think the very best French restaurant in the state of Maryland
is very close by Baltimore also. Tersiguel's in Ellicott City is what French is all about. It started out in Ellicott City back in the early 60's and sometime around 1977 it burned down. They reopenned in Baltimore in the Old Shot Tower (in what was a German restaurant) and were just so so. The owner turned it over to his son and moved back to Ellicott City about 8 years ago and it is again great.

    I get to Tio Pepe's at least every two months and there was a
period of several years where things were not so good. (Strangely, it did not effect the meals based on fish and shell fish) which is all that I normally eat there. I am not a fan of their wine list. They really over price their Spanish wines so I usually end up with a mediocre California wine. But after dinner, they do pour great ports. Tio Pepe's has to be the number one restaurant because it has been good for so long.

     North of Baltimore in Sparks, MD is the Milton Inn which is worth
every mile of the drive. It was voted the most romantic inn on the East Coast about 15 years ago and it has not changed.

This surprises me every time I hear it and I hear it often. I never went to the original Tersiguel's but I used to work in Ellicott City and ate there several times. At best, the food was mediocre. On two occasions, it was dreadful (OK, why did I go there repeatedly, you ask? fair question - business lunches and dinners - not my choice).
