There are sooooooooo many places! If you want to stick to the "downtown" area, venture over to Fell's Point and visit John Stevens, LTD on Thames Street -- very easy to get to. They also have an excellent raw bar. Of course soon you'll be hearing from countless "Baltimorons" that will give the _real_ crab places to go to. Keep away from the Inner Harbor and their over pricing. There are actually people that live around here that will _teach_ you the correct way to have and eat a crab feast (messy as hell!) and all they ask for in return is the free meal! Sorry I don't have details. It's my understanding that most of the better crab places are on the outskirts of town. But if you want to stick to the touristy area, venture down to Fell's Point (East of the Inner Harbor, immediately past Little Italy) for fun and food. Most spring and summer weekends there's a festival or something going on outside on Broadway or Market Street and for nighttime fun, there's a plethora of bars.

O'Brecky's is THE place in Balt, (if you ask the old line Baltimorians). The first thing you need decide is what type of seasoning you want on top of the crabs. Some places have a black pepper seasoning while others use the more well know Ches. Bay Seasoning. My personal preference is the Ches, Bay Seasoning. Either way, shop by phone for the best prices. Crabs are sold by the dozen and anything smaller than large is wasted. Mediums are the usual crab feast size (all you can eat) because you dont get full, you just get tired of picking out the meat.

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, Chesapeake Bay blue crabs will be in short supply due to chronic overfishing and environmental stress. This time of year, most crabs still come from Texas, Fla. and La. (good crabs, but they lose weight during the trip to Maryland and aren't as heavy, or as sweet, as local crabs.

O'Brycki's Crab House (1727 E. Pratt Street, Baltimore, - 410-732-6399) is fairly commer- cial and expensive, but its crabs are good. Bo Brooks, 5415 Belair Road, Baltimore (410-488-8144) is not fancy with a couple of big noisy rooms. Cheaper than O'Byrckis. Generally, good crabs.

There are hundreds of good neighborhood places. The problem with recommending a crabhouse is that they tend to be variable, and this weeks top choice, is next weeks disappointment.

My best advise ... stay away from Phillip's Harborplace. Its crabs are vastly overpriced, and not very good.
