I spend a considerable amount of time in ME since both my family and my wife's family are there. Unfortunately, I can not think of any recommendations that fit your specific needs. However, I can give you some good restaurants to try: The Village Cafe serves very good, basic Italian food. It's located on India St. on the edge of the Old Port. I've had a good meal at Cafe Stroudwater in the Embassy Suites (I think) out by the airport. They serve continental cuisine. The Market Street Grille in the Portland Regency Hotel in the Old Port serves in interesting asst. of styles. My wife and I enjoyed it our meals there 2 weeks ago. Panda Garden on Brighton Ave serves Chinese Cuisine. It got a favorable review 2 Sundays ago in the Portland paper and I have to agree having eaten there several times. If you want to know about a specific restaurant, let me know, I've probably eaten there. As a rule, restaurants in Portland are average, at best. Portland pales in comparison to Boston for dining experinces. Restaurants in Portland, Maine
We recently had a great meal in Portland, but I'm not sure of the name of the restaurant. It's on an alley full of restaurants very close to the water, and may be the Wharf St. Cafe. The menu was great--very creative, with interesting pasta and seafood dishes. We went around the corner and got our own wine. I think dinner for 4 was around $80, not including wine. Oh--the desserts were delicious, too. Susanne
