Well, I don't remember anyone posting a compilation of the discussion, but here's what I've put together based on a couple of questions:

Whole Foods Market
3135 Esplanade Avenue (Faubourg St. John, not far from the French Quarter on the Esplanade bus line) This is a natural food grocery that has a deli counter that does sandwiches and stuff.
Can handle just about anything, including ovo-lacto.

Pie in the Sky Pizza
1818 Magazine
This is a veggie pizza place.

Bennachin
133 N. Carrollton
Vegetarian soul-food. Veggie jambalaya and African vegetarian dishes.

Old Dog, New Tricks
Exchange Alley in the French Quarter
This place is a full-fledged vegetarian restaurant right in the Quarter.

The Apple Seed Shoppe
336 Camp St.
504.529.3442
advertises itself as a vegetarian/health food place cheap appx. 6 blocks walking distance not necessary Note: This is primarily a lunch place for folks who work in the CBD. I don't think it's got dinner hours.

Additionally, there are the following restaurants, all within walking distance of the downtown Marriott that are sympathetic to the needs of the vegetarian diner. I can't say specifically that they'll be able to accomodate the requirements of a strict vegan, but a phone call to any of them will settle that. The Italian places (Anacapri and Bacco) as well as La. Pizza Kitchen should be able to handle most requests, since their menus are olive oil and semolina flour-based. Wish I could help more, but Creole cuisine doesn't really lend itself to vegetarian interpretations.

Anacapri
320 Decatur
504.522.9056
When I put the question of vegetarian restaurants to local food critic Tom Fitzmorris about a year ago, he first suggested Andrea's in Metairie, and Anacapri, both owned by Chef Andrea Appuzzo. Chef Andrea will make just about anything anyone asks for, if he's got the ingredients in the kitchen.

Bacco
310 Chartres St.
504.522.2426
Owned by the same folks as Commander's Palace and Mr. B's. Italian, should be able to handle a pasta/veggie type vegetarian dinner.

Cafe' Sbisa
1101 Decatur St.
504.522.5565
Should be able to accomodate vegetarians.

Louisiana Pizza Kitchen
95 French Market Place (in the old French Market)
504.522.9500
Gourmet pizza place, regularly has "vegetarian" pizzas on the menu.

Samuari Sushi
609 Decatur
504.525.9595
Sushi Bar a few blocks away from the Marriott. Can accomodate vegetarians to the extent that just about any sushi bar can.

These are places that I haven’t put addresses to (places people have e-mailed me about):

Jack Sprat's Vegetarian Grill (Carrollton)
East African Harvest (Gentilly--near race track)
The Jerusalem Cafe on Carrollton offers a wide variet of meat free foods-- falafal and stuff...
