Every time my wife and I go, we make sure we get in to town in time for lunch at Acme Oyster House for our first meal. Still a good choice. It's really worth it to try Peristyle, Brigtsen's, or Bayona, among others, for an outstanding dinner. They don't gouge you for the wine, either. We had a nice lunch at Bon Ton Cafe, I'd go back there.

Hope this helps! It is a wonderful place for an eating trip. Go for it! Jerry C. wrote:

Best place I know in the Quarter is Patout's. Alex Patout used to work for Paul Prudhome when he was on top.

Last time I was there, I was dissapointed at Commanders Palace. Service was spectacular, but the food was not as good as Patout's.

Have heard nothing but great things about Brightsons.

Had a great meal at NOLA...not cheap but not outrageous. Call from home to get a reservation. Packed. Taken to Commander's Palace...very mediocre. dolly>

Outrageous yes, great meal no, at least in the case of four of us who visited not long ago. The meal was so outrageously bad that the manager declined to present us with a bill. IMO, this restaurant is a cartoon of what people expect from Emeril and from a NO restaurant. The spread-way-too-thin Emeril is nowhere in sight, the kitchen seems to be on automatic pilot, and the customers arrive ready to partake in the legend, with their crtical faculties on hold. Go somewhere - anywhere - else.

I had a great meal in Emeril's other restaurant. It was expensive, but worth it.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner in Mister B's Bistro (Try the Jambalaya with duck)

A favorite lunch spot is the basement(street/level) restaurant/bar in the Monteleone Hotel, which does a great seafood platter.

Please understand that these recommendations are several years old, as I don't get there that often.

Try Mike Anderson's on Bourbon street near Canal. My children have always enjoyed that place as much as I have. They have a web site at: http://mikeandersons.com/
