OK, so this isn't e-mail. The list in NO is so long, it's difficult to start.

I always try to stop by the Cafe du Monde for beignets at least once every trip (across from Jackson Square in the French Qarter next to the river).

Among the "old guard" are
Commander's Palace - expensive, French Creole and in the Garden District - need a cab for about $8 ride from French Quarter

Galatoire's - not so expensive, classic French, and on Bourbon St.

Others worthy of mention include Arnaud's,Antoine's, and Brennan's, all in the Quarter.

Among the newer restaurants are
The Grill Room in the Windsor Court Hotel - highest rated in Zagat's but not as good as either of the top two (although I would hate to live off the difference.)

Emeril's - sort of expensive, run by a former head chef of Commander's Palace who wanted to creeate a healthier New Orleans cuisine - in the warehouse district at Julia and Tchopatoulis (sp?) near the convention center about $2 ride from French Quarter. -- very good

Bayona - good but quirky - owned and run by former head chef of the Grill Room (Susan Spicer?)-in the Quarter on the street that extends from Baronne as it crosses Canal.

For very cheap and cholesterol laden you might try Mother's at Poydras and Tchopatoulis (sp? pronounced "chop a TWO liss")

Good luck.

For dinner especially, and maybe lunch, I'd nominate Bayonna in the French Quarter.

I also had a great meal at Bayonna last fall. Emeril's had good food but very hurried service. They were really trying to turn over the tables. The Windsor Court was spectacular.

For a fancy italian dinner out for two at a reasonable price...

Try LaReveria in Metarie...a short cab ride from the Rippoffs in the Quarter... Most of the restaurant in the Quarter are geared for the tourist in mind...The Crab Meat Raviola is to die for and the Fried Calamari is the best..The owner and Chief is from Italy and wathces old I love Lucy reruns in the kitchen...

For a good pizza in the quarter you can go to the end of the French Market and facing the market onn the corner is a really good pizza place..(lunch) don't know the name of the place, but it was really good...

Also Carmines in bucktown is really good for Italian Seafood but a family atmisphere/ middler class, and Deannies around the corner is excellent for seafood, but family class , Not romantic... TRy the stuffed Artichoke, gut ask the sauce on the side if you are not wild about dill.....

Also for the best Seafood Platter you have to go the Yeagers on the Lake front and TRy the Big All's seafood plater. Cost about $45.00 but will feed 4 adults and a few rug rats... Family place....

I went to a place in metarie over the labor day weekend with my mother, I think the name was Vincent's Great Tiramisu for desert....

For the best Muffalotta, I don't recommend Central grocery... It is always lacking in my humble opinion.. Try Mr Romas It is the best to be had, but also in mettarie...

Please e-mail me back when you return,, I would like to know where you went even if you don't go to any of the places that I recommended...

Ps. If you like english Ale.. Go to china roses near the Lake front. It is at the corner of Robert E. Lee and Canal Blvd...

It a Chineese resturant and bar , that has the only whitbread ale in town, and a very ecletic group will gather from all around the globe and be very ecletic.. Tell them that Gail's son in Atlanta sent you..(my mother and hiusband go there all the time)

Have Fun And

Bon appitete
