Best bets in NO, IMHO: Alex Patout's Louisana Kitchen (fabulous and underrated) K-Paul's Kitchen (expensive, but worth it) Bayonna Brightsens Untewezie (I know it's spelled wrong, but this is supposed to the place the chef's of NO eat, according to Susan Spicer, owner and Executive Chef of Bayonna) My last meal at Commanders Palace, was, diaspointing. Great service, but the food was not what I expected. Colin Scott W. wrote: >Anyone been to Commander's Palace recently? How does is compare with >Emeril's? or Delmonico's? > > Thanks....... >

Great service, > but the food was not what I expected. Ate at Commander's a week and a few days ago (Tuesday). Food was very good and the service was quite disappointing. I had the turtle soup for starters. It was excellent even though it was my second turtle soup ever. For the main course I had the "mixed grill." Had a number of different sausages made in different ways and this was also very very good. To finish it off I had their famous bread pudding souffle and it was amazing. Now for their service. First off, despite reservations had to wait 20-25 minutes for the 8 pm reservation. I was a little sick (well enough to taste the food fortunately) and was drinking a lot of fluids, namely iced tea. It took them about 20 minutes for them to bring me my glass and this is after the main course was served. My glass was refilled once after waiting about 20 minutes at least for that. AFter the second glass, my glass was taken away as I was at the bathroom and never replaced. I was with a customer and didn't feel like waiting another 25 minutes so I just drank water. After that glass it never was refilled. This stuff usually bugs me at 'regular' restuarants and at probably the most highly respected restaurant in NO I was very disappointed. Overall the service seemed rather disorganized and the silverware was kind of 'thrown' onto the table rather than placed. Personally, it doesn't bother me but more surprises me. Overall though for the price it was very good. They have prix fix menu ($35-40 or so) as well as a quite extensive regular menu. Gerald

As far as I'm concerned (and I've eaten at a ton of resturants in NOLA) that it blows Emril's or Delmonico's away. I'd also try Galatoires on Burbon. Tujagues is also good. On of my favorite places to go is Petunias on Sain Louis. Outstanding food! I've never taken anyone there who didn't like it...
