I've got an article explaining this in detail on my web site, Virtually New Orleans (URL is in my sig). The dominant cuisine in New Orleans is "Creole." All of the top-level restaurants in town (Galatoire's, Commander's Palace, Antoine's, Arnaud's, etc.) are either Creole or "New Creole," like Emeril's or Bayona. The distinction here is one of innovation and imagination as opposed to just serving "classic" dishes. That said, if you're looking for Cajun food, try Mulate's on Julia St., Michaul's on St. Charles Ave., or Patout's on Bourbon. All of these are mere shadows of the wonderful food you'll get at some of the places I mentioned in the first paragraph, however. Cheers, Ed.

New Orleans Cajun Req
Having just returned from the big easy for a little R&R, I would have to say that I didn't find any p faults with the restaurants in N.O.. Good Cajun food is hard to find but Alex Patout's in the french quarter is pretty good. For real Cajun food you should go to LaFayette, not N.O. Other good restaurants include: G&E courtyard Grill French Quarter TuJague's F.Q. Upperline F.Q. Nola F.Q. Emeril's warehouse district Uglisich (lunch only) Erato above St. Charles Hope this helps.
