For a true New Orleans lunch experience, try "Uglesich's" at 1238 Barronne St. It's a local "superdive" but the food is great: Po-boys, gumbo, soft-shelled crab, oysters, crawfish. Lots of local folk eat here - they know where to go for food.

It's in a pretty "iffy" neighborhood, but don't let that daunt you. "Since 1924" Phone 804-523-8571 (no reservations - ha- required)

Thanks for your advice on great places to eat in
New Orleans.

Please add Graham's to the list- it was my best meal there.

Second the motion. Check out some descriptions of Uglesich's on the Web at:

The neighborhood is only "iffy" at night, and they close at 4:30pm, so don't let the surroundings deter anyone. Ugly's has by far the best oysters in town. One other note: the area code of the phone number is 504, like all numbers in the metro New Orleans area.
