(Evelyn L. writes about food in NOLA: >We liked Mother's for breakfast or lunch--no atmosphere, but good food-- Mother's is hardly cajun, but it is wonderful. Bowls of cracklins, the debris sandwich (bits of roast beef that have fallen off the roast and simmered all day) a baked ham and burnt ends I was unable to try. Serious foodie pig-out heaven. Went twice, rolled home from Nolacon... >and Olde New Awlins for dinner--the food is great and the service Indeed. Very nice. (Is it Old N'awlins Cookery?) Also The New Cafe Sbisa (est 1899) for soft-shelled crawfish, duck in green peppercorn sauce, and soft-shelled crab almondine. Exquisite. The Chocolate Sin cake is a great way to finish, and do ask for a copy of the recipe. >Cafe du Monde for beignets and coffee seems to be a tradition. It is, but I don't know why. I'm surprised you did not mention the most famous Cajun spot in Nawlins, K-Paul's. I didn't go there when I was there, but only because I had not yet experienced his recipes. After cooking from paul Prudhomme's cookbooks, I am willing to recommend his place on principle.
