Boy, what in Sam Hill are you smoking? You rattled off a whole mess a'things and didn't even mention the food of the gawdz. The best Cajun food in BR is arguably Mike Anderson's or Brunet's or Drusilla's or Mulate's or ....oh, just take your pick, but stay away >from Ralph N'Piccadilly's -- they've gone to pot. If you want to get serious, stop off at Pat's of Henderson in Henderson, LA. (next to the big swampy place) The best muffalettas/poboys/curley-Qs go to Nooley's. Best fatburgers and hash browns: Louie's Cafe Best pork ribs: TJ Ribbs (and you can even catch a glimpse of Billy Cannon's trophy, if he hasn't hocked it yet) Best bull: Joe Dean --J.J.

Mike Anderson's Seafood on West Lee Drive near LSU is really good and a game day favorite for Tiger fans. The Chimes restaurant at the North Gates of LSU on Highland Road has terrific food, but it's noisy if that's not the atmosphere you want. Calendar's at the South Gates of LSU on Highland has an awesome dish called Crawfish Fettucine which is a special and is out of this world. There other food is above average, although not terribly distinctive. T.J. Ribs at I-10 and Acadian Thruway is really, really good, too. Now if you're going to go to New Orleans on Friday night, I can write an encyclopedia on this subject...! Hope this helps. Look in the yellow pages for the name of a tamale shop it is a local joint and if I remember correctly it isn't in the best part of town but serves grand tamales. For pastries go to Joe Gambino's bakery. There is a diner just off of Highland very near LSU that has a great breakfast (especially at 4 am!) wonderful eggs & grits! Kelly R. Juban's just off I-10 @ Acadian exit (it is in a strip mall) offers very good food. Their chicken/duck gumbo is excellent and the fried soft shell crab is a v.g. dish! [email removed] From [email removed] Mon Sep 18 09:56:36 EDT 1995 Article: 19359 of rec.food.restaurants
Not far from Baton Rouge, the Lafayette area boasts a few really good restaurants. If ever you get the chance, check out these places: Randol's Restaurant (Laf), Mulate's (Breaux Bridge), Charley G's (Laf & NO), Don's Seafood (2 locations in Laf... I prefer the downtown one), i Monelli's (Laf), and The Warehouse (Rayne). Randol's is one of the more popular Cajun style restaurants in the area, great food matched with real cajun music and dancing. This is where the local television show 'Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler' is taped on Thursday nights. Mulate's is possibly the most famous Cajun restaurant in the world. Great food and atmosphere brings in many tourists to the Breaux Bridge area restaurant. Charley G's is a restaurant that features great seafood dishes and is not limited to cajun cuisine. Their weekends and Sunday brunches are surely impressive. They also have one of the best gumbos in the area, made with duck and andouille. Don's Seafood in Downtown Lafayette is another of the most popular restaurants in the area. It was established in 1933 and is still cooking delicious and impressive foods from the area. i Monelli's is something I threw in for a bit of flavor. They specialize in some great Italian cuisine. Their delicious and original recipies are quite impressive. The Warehouse Restaurant in Rayne is not only a great place to eat, but the atmosphere is incredible. The menu is composed mainly of gourmet dishes as well as great Cajun dishes. Like Charley G's, they have a spectacular Sunday brunch, but has a pianist and complimentary champagne to go with the meal. Saturday lunches are run off of a small menu, mostly composed of sandwiches and steaks and salads, with three delicious specials that are always a treat. More than just the restaurant is Rayne, a beautiful small town boasting many interesting murals. Rayne is also in the Guiness Book of World Records for having the only graveyard facing North and South. Hopefully many of you who see this will have the oppurtunity to enjoy the cuisine of these restaurants. If anyone wants more information on the area, mail me and I will do my best to answer. . Jon R.
