So.. here are a few suggestions I think are still around. Columbia's for steak. I would go to the one on Limestone and I think its near 3rd street. Double check the address. They always had great steaks. Pizza... Joe Bologna's. It is near UK campus. One block west of Limestone. It is in an old synagogue. The BEST pizza and fried banana peppers (how i miss both so much). Merrick Inn... this was out Tates Creek road. The restaurant was in an old house, don't know if they are still open... but the food was good way back when. Halls on the River. Granted this isn't in Lexington, BUT, if it is still open, what a great drive down to the river and some darn good catfish too. Hope these are still around!! I haven't eaten at one in a long time, so I can't say how good they are now. >Merrick Inn... this was out Tates Creek road. There's also a highly recommended fish restaurant in Frankfort, on the bypass. It's not on a river, but it's on a creek. I think they also have fried banana peppers. Alas, I can't give you the name. I had dinner at what used to be the Woodland Grill (now Julie's or something like that) at the corner of Main and Woodland on Monday. I had a hot brown, which was very good. My mother liked her chicken croquettes and lima beans. I would recommend trying them. (If you've never had a hot brown, try one, but be warned that they are not lo-cal). Another place to try a hot brown, and some other local foods, is Rogers. Pretty good food, and friendly informal service, but when I was there last year it was very smoky (it gets a lot of business from the surrounding tobacco warehouses). For barbeque, you might try Billy's BBQ in Chevy Chase. I also tried Red Hot and Blue, across the street, but didn't like them as much.

Asked for Medium rare, came out well done, somewhat tasteless. Poor service, etc. Not a place that I would go back to. One of the wife's favorites, so we will be going back, however. Lots of people lining up for the "special' though. maybe it was just an "off" night. Jon M.
