These are my favorites: The addresses are in the phone book! Rowdy Joe's - Steaks Awsome steaks and a good BBQ sauce on the baby-back ribs. Good service. Noisy on weekend nights. ($15/plate) Angelo's - Italian This is the best Italian place in town; however, the service is crap. IMHO, the food make up for the bad service. ($10/plate) Amarillo Grill - Steaks These guys know how to cook a steak. It's different than a Rowdy Joe's steak but just a good. Service is good. Good appitizers. Good cobblers. ($13/plate) Kobi's Steak House - Japanese Habachi Style Very tasty. ($13/plate) The Canton - Chinese Very mild cantonese food. Excellent egg drop soup, sweet and sour, and chow mien. ($5/plate) Yen Ching - Chinese Wide range of food. Best value is lunch. You get a salad, soup, and plenty of food in a very nice atmosphere. ($5/plate, lunch) Not recommended for dinner. I had great ribs once at Johnny's Hickory House in Shawnee Mission, KS. I think it's also Remus Powers' neighborhood BBQ joint, and that's a strong recommendation in itself. el From [email removed] Mon Jan 27 13:51 EST 1997 To: [email removed] Subject: Re: KCBS Trade Show Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Content-Length: 886 > 6. There are no BBQ joints along I-70, west of KCKS. There is indeed a BBQ joint in Hays Kansas, it's called Richard's Real Pit Barbeque. You have to get off I-70, it's down by the college (Fort Hays). We dined there this past fall. Ribs coulda been better, the pulled pork was good. We drove by the night before and found He had a woood pile out back, so it was worth a try. Ask Richard to show you his pit, he designed it himself. It has motorized shelf things inside to bring the meat up to a small door for loading/unloading. The firebox has a thermostat driven vent which opens/closes automagically to regulate the temp.
