I looked and looked and can't seem to find my guide to vegetarian restaurants in Tokyo. There IS such a book, and there are a few places to eat. Tokyo is a huge place, and you won't enjoy traveling to Setagaya just for lunch. Let me make some suggestions: 1) If you have a contact in Tokyo, fax and ask that they look for that guidebook for you. It is bilingual Japanese/English and either the Maruzen or Kinokunia bookstore should have it. 2) My favorite place was Bodaiju restaurant, near the Mita stop on the subway or Tamachi on the railroad. 3) There is a well-known restaurant near Shimbashi station. People will know about it, so no problem finding it when you are there. 4) There are many vegan options in some restaurants, particularly if you mention that you are "sai-shoku shugi" (vegetarian). As an example, a very good place for a business dinner is Inaka-ya in Akasaka, right in the middle of the restaurant/entertainment district. Near the Sanno-shita intersection. It is in the English language info you will no doubt accumulate at your hotel. Your companions can eat other things, but they have a wide assortment of veggies which they broil on the gas grill right in front of you. It is a classy place, with good sake (try it cold in the wooden box cup). 5) You can get vegetable tempura in many restaurants, especially tempura restaurants. 6) There are famous tofu restaurants. 7) You will get a lot of help when you are there. I'm sorry I can't find my book, though. Cheerz, -Larry <<< Sent by Global Link 1.4 >>>
