If you want to find good food I strongly advise you the district of Testaccio, that is not so famous for tourists, but very characteristic. It is not far from the downtown (about 1 mile from Piazza Venezia) near the Piramide Cestia (an ancient Roman Piramid). There you can find in Via Marmorata n°47 one of the best gourmet foodstore in Rome, Volpetti, and also a good cafeteria that serves, among other things, great pizza (they also have a website www.fooditaly.com). On Via Marmorata n°41 there is Perilli a good restaurant that serves typical Roman dishes. Another very good restaurant is Checchino, also typical Roman cooking, that is Via del Campo Boario, under a small hill formed by broken ancient Roman Anphorae (this one is a bit expensive). In the same district there is also a characteristic fruit and fish market and plenty of pizzerie. In front of Testaccio there is the very nice hill of Aventino, with a quiet park, many villas and the wonderfull knights of Malta Embassy that is open only in this period until the 8th of December. So enjoy your holiday in Rome. Alessandro
