George,
There are two places in South Bend that have good steaks: Eddie's Steak Shed on 23 in Granger, or The Louvered Door On Lincoln way. I've been here for almost 10 years and forget about BBQ unless its at mine or your house<G>.

Bruce,
Thanks for the tip on the Louvered Door. I've tried Eddie's and wasn't impressed with the food or the service. Never went back. Maybe I should give them another chance. Everyone in town has always recommended Eddie's, so maybe I just caught them on an off night. I've driven by the Louvered Door many times and wanted to stop in, there are always plenty of people at lunch time which is a good sign. The place I had my best steak in town was at Doc Pierce's in Mishawaka. The lunch time menu is soups, sandwiches and burgers, but the evening menu is more upscale, with steaks, seafood. Either time of day, pretty good eats.

As for BBQ, I think you may be correct. I've heard Frankie's on west Washington is good though and another place somewhere north of Washington just off Olive. I haven't quite figured out ribs yet, but I bet my brisket is better than either place! <G>
