I kept hearing about what a good restaurant Zaven's was, how quiet and uncrowded and so forth, so I suggested to my DH that we try it. The food was good, no question about that. DH had confit of duck and I had filet en croute, and there were no complaints from either of us...but the atmosphere was just a bit odd. It was fairly quiet for a Friday evening, but we still sat for about fifteen minutes before we were even given menus. I don't know...it seemed like a lapse in service.

The waiter brought a dish of hummus and a plate of toasted pita bread to the table and felt compelled to explain to us what hummus was, which seemed a bit odd to us, but maybe the usual clientele doesn't get out much to Middle Eastern restaurants. And there was this obnoxious 70's era porn soundtrack thing going on...it was all just weird. Was this an off night, or has the restaurant started into decline, or what?.
