Well, in the past couple of years the trend in the area is for great (or at least well-known) Chicago restaurant institutions to open satellite locations nearby. Bar Louie, Goose Island and Heaven-on-7 come to mind. My favorite is Heaven-on-7. It is high quality Cajun/Creole/Southern with a mind-numbing array of hot sauces. IMHO the diaspora of Bar Louie has dramatically decreased the taste & quality of their food. There are more that I don't recall- I rarely drink in the neighborhood out of baseball (if you call it that) season. And please remember to NOT stop into Murphy's Bleacher, whom this summer will charge FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS PER /CAN/ of Budweiser. trent P.S. For those who don't know- that Ho7 location delivers, even way up here.

Go to Jimmy's on the corner and order a porkchop sandwich with everything. comes with fries, ask for the sport peppers. The polish sausage is great too. The neighborhood looks really bombed out, you have to either eat in the car or cab or standing up, or take it to go. It is safe, even at 3am. You will also be introduced to street hawkers selling socks, fake gold jewelry, and X-rated video tapes. It's a fun outting. Another place that is a sit down restaurant in the same area is a deli called Manny's. At Roosevelt(12th street) and Des Plaines. Absolutely the best corned beef sandwich in Chicago. They have been there for over 39 years. If you cab it over, you can find a cab to get back when you're through. www.mannysdeli.com The green relish you mentioned can be found at the Vienna Manufacturing Plant Outlet store and restaurant. They have this employee cafe and also over the counter deli meats. It's a large, clean well run place. You will have the possibility of having the best Chicago style hotdog you've eaten there. It's the place that restaurants try to emulate in hot dog building. The will also sell you the relish. It's located at the intersection of Elston, Damen, and Fullerton in chicago's northside. About a 15 minute cab ride from downtown in non-rush hour traffic. Have the cabbie come back to pick you up in 45minutes to an hour.......or better yet offer to buy him lunch and eat with you.
