Unfortunately, the Mayfair closed and the building's being converted to condos. If you don't mind eating in a hotel, the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton in Water Tower Place is posh. The Everest Room, atop the Stock Exchange building at 440 South LaSalle in the Loop, is also elegant with great food, and is the one of the few good restaurants with a high-rise view. Ambria, on North Lincoln Park West at Belden (2300 North), is one the the best restaurants in town - and is outside of the Loop-North Michigan area, so you'd see another part of Chicago if you went there. Have fun.

Where to eat in CHICAGO?

It is located in Lake Point Towers I believe and as far as I know, it is still open for business. Another place with an excellent view of the city (unless there is fog) is the Signature Room at the top of the John Hancock building. Everything was nice and elegantly prepared. If you are not interested in the view and like seafood than either Nick's Fish Market or Catch 33 would be an excellent choice. Have a great time choosing and dining. Melinda Echols
Hi, If you are looking for a great sub sandwich, go to Fontano's in Chicago's little Italy. It is on Polk Street about two blocks east of Racine Av. on the north side of street. It is a small grocery store with a deli counter in the back that in my opinion makes the finest subs in the metro area. I reccomend the blockbuster sub with mild peppers. This restaurant is about ten minutes southwest of downtown. Also, this is an unsolicited opinion, I went to school near there and found it on my own.
