When in Seoul...

Based on reviews we'd read, we made it over to the Garden Buffet at 5347 Lincoln Ave. on Saturday night. It's one of a couple of well-recommended Korean barbecue places in town, so as we like that stuff, we wanted to check it out.

Aside from one other couple, we were the only Caucasians in the place, which felt weird, but made us feel like we'd found a secret jewel! There were lots of choices of meat (some in marinades, some plain) on the buffet for at-table grilling, and everything was good. We floundered a little bit until one of the waitresses showed us what to do, but it was worth the effort! The only thing I might have asked for would be some labels (in ENGLISH) on some of the buffet items. Luckily, I knew to steer clear of the ice-cold noodles in broth, which I'd gotten by mistake once at Schilla, and did NOT like at all! My husband really liked the octopus, and the shrimp had a very nice flavor, too (though do you cut off their heads before or after you cook 'em?). ;) Good meal, and good value for $20 each!

Two other great finds just North of the Garden Buffet, on the Lincoln Bend:

Japanese/Korean sushi at Tampopo.
5700 or 5800 N. Lincoln.
Ask for Daniel, usually your host.
The place is immaculate and the food is ever so tasty, with meals beyond raw fish, like noodle soups and maki. You won't be disappointed. We go at least once a week. Modestly priced.

Further North on "Lincoln Bend," across from Mather High School is the Lincoln Noodle house, which has a very dedicated Korean menu/clientele. Try the Bi Bim Bop, probably just as good as Jim's Grill on 1400 W. Irving. Spicy dakon and kim chi precede the meal, with some alright miso soup with the Bop. $6 for a tummy-full.

Enjoy!
