I'm no gourmand, but here are some of my favorites.

Jeannie's Chinese restaurant on Belmont just west of Sheffield. Order the "Good Luck".

Potbellies makes a delicious "Italian" sandwich. There's one on Lincoln SE of Belden, and there's one on Webster just east of Webster Place.

Hub's makes the best gyros I've ever had. Dempster in Skokie, and Lincoln Ave. just south of Peterson.

Mamasita's makes a terrific burrito. They are now on Southport near the Music Box. There is also a Mexican restaurant right across the alley from the Biograph theater that is cheap and funky and very good.

Rosebud is expensive and noisy, but damn the food is good and the portions are huge. I can't remember the exact location, but it's near Rush St. by the Hancock.

The original location is still running on Broadway north of Belmont.

Fiesta Mexicana is across the alley from the Biograph. 'Nando's is about 2 miles further up Lincoln and has the better margaritas of the two. FM has better food and atmosphere, and for you bargain hunters there's always a coupon in the Reader's restaurant section.

OK here goes:

Downtown:

Bandera on Michigan for lunch, sit by the windows overlooking Michigan Ave.

Naniwa for dinner, sushi, Wells at Ohio

Howard Johnson Motor Lodge on LaSalle for Breakfast, have the grits with anything, you can park in their lot.

Berwyn:

Lunch, Bishops Chili, 9252 Cermak Rd. North Riverside

Others will chime in I'm sure. I don't really like dining in Wicker Park. Many of the restaurants there are trying too hard, and they're too pricey for the quality and the range of food IMHO.
