So I was watching the Channel Eleven restaurant review show on the weekend. The one, I forget the name, that takes everday folk and sends them to the same restaurants and then get's them to sit around a table and banter and rate their experiences.

A review this past weekend was for a Soul food down home Southern place called MacArthurs on Madison, 5401 West. Madison and Long.

I had never heard of it so I had to go. I went yesterday for lunch. It's the best Soul food I've ever had in Chicago.

It's cafeteria style, like Manny's Deli here in Chicago.

The lunch special is aprox 7.50 with tax and a drink. Two main dishes, two sides and bread. My plate weighed about 5 lbs.

I had the fried chicken, braised beef tips on noodles, side of greens and side of sweet potatoes. I chose white bread.

The chicken was better than any of the chicken shacks and rib joints I go to. Far superior.

The interior is warm and cozy, and all the patrons were very friendly. There's way more poeple taking food to go than are eating there so don't let the long line among stanchions worry you about not getting a table to sit down.

I'm not a dessert guy but they were selling mashed banana pudding and baked peaches like crazy.

There is a parking lot right next door.

Don't let the neighborhood scare you, it is pretty benign.

Oh yeah BTW, MacArthurs got an 8.5 composite score on a 1-10 scale on the TV show.
