I was a freshman there, and found the following two to be excellent
choices, but by far not the only two:

Thai 55. - excellent Thai, typically served in small jars (rather than
plates as done here and on the East Coast) - east 55th street. Follow
the footsteps on the pavement (you'll see what I mean...)

Eduado's (sp?) - it's been a long time. If you can get there before the
rush (5pm) - then it's great. It takes 45 minutes to freshly bake a REAL
Chicago-style deep dish pizza, but it worth every minute. Also, the flat
pizza is quite good, but not what the city is famous for. Giardano's is
their main competition in the deep-dish business and also has a joint
near campus. I don't have the address anymore, but anyone you run into
on the street is likely to know of these places!

The Eduardo's in Hyde Park is NOT worth your time, trust me. The Giordano's on 53rd Street is better. Try Medici on Harper (53rd and Harper?)

I've had several fine pies there over the past few years.

Ah, it IS on harper and not on 57th. I second this, the Vaguely Reminiscent is wonderful.
