***RED ALERT***RED ALERT*** DELANCY DELI

To Eliyahu [Eli] Ross:

That explains it. Three or four weeks ago, we went to Max's, I'm pretty sure it was still called Max's. But it was clearly under new and disappointing management. My corned beef on rye came on the kind of rye bread that is wrapped in cellophane at the Jewel (Beefsteak?), clearly not the deli type rye I expected. It was not very good, but it wasn't as bad as the soup, which was flavorless. Boring bread, no pickles, and the cole slaw was disappointing. I can't recall having a worse deli type lunch, ever (and I've had a lot of them), and I don't intend to return. The Bagel will be getting all my deli business now. It's a shame, the Belden was always pretty decent, and Max's was an excellent replacement, probably even better than the Belden.

I wonder if the Max's in Highland Park is still around, and still the real thing?
