I've got a couple of reccomendations from off-eats folks. A vegetarian minded friend has suggested Thai Addison, "in the mall behind Portillo's on Lake, just west of Addison Road". Another friend whose taste I have more empirical grounds for trusting suggests Tiki Thai (sp?) in downtown LaGrange as excellent. Sorry, those are all the addresses I have for either of them, as I've not yet gone looking for either.
Let's see. The long-lost Thailander was in a multi-strip mess further east on Roosevelt, sharing connected asphalt with the Melting Pot and Aurelio's (sp?) - Italian place with edible buffet pizza? And, back in the clutter of small shops part of the big strip at the south end of the asphalt, there's another Thai restaurant that I recall (from one or two visits quite a few years ago) as okay, but their Pad Thai was not the style Cally dotes on - maybe it had cilantro, which tastes bad to her - so we've never been back. Besides, getting there involved driving past Thailander...
I believe Siam Kitchen is still in business at 341 West Ogden in Westmont - the strip's street end is Coconuts. Another restaurant that I rather enjoyed but Cally didn't so much, so again it's been some years since my last visit. (this post may be turning into a list of places to have lunch next week, as we're celebrating spring break and, aside from a long, long todo list, I'm not tied down)
And there's Pad Thai, Etc. just on the edge of downtown Wheaton at 563 Liberty. I have to admit that although I enjoy their cooking, it does tend to leave me afterwards with a vague feeling that something was missing that ought to have been there. It's not their fairly light (by default - you can ask for hotter) hand on the firey spices. Light by the standard of Thai restaurants I've eaten at, anyway. :-)Chicago, IL
