Hi: Just returned from trip to Evanston/Chicago area to visit relatives for holiday. Yesterday (Saturday) we decided to try the Pierogi Inn for lunch. Drove over to 5318 W. Lawrence about 11:30 AM and found storefront empty with recent-looking signs stating that they had moved down the street to the corner. Walked down to corner, and there indeed was a restaurant there.....old signage was still up (Chopin's Polonaisse or something like that) along with a brand new sign which read Pierogi Inn. Also had stick on letters/numbers on the door which said "Pierogi Inn - Open 10 AM". But the door was chained shut from the inside and no one seemed to be around. Does anyone here know what is happening with the Pierogi Inn ? Not to be deterred, we piled back in the rent-a-car and cruised down Milwaukee to Division/Ashland and had a very nice lunch at Podhalanka (sp?). Along the way, I did see us pass by "Orbit" and several other familiar joints from this newsgroup, but I'm glad we ate at Podhalanka. Very friendly service, authentic atmosphere, definitely decent food (between the three of us, we had pierogi, potato pancakes, and stuffed cabbage -- I won't try the Polish equivalent names here :-), and fair prices. We are looking forward to going there again on our next trip to the area. Happy holidays to all!

Does anyone here know what is happening with the Pierogi Inn. Corner of Lawrence and Milwaukee? Richard Anton Zawadzki, chef/owner of Pierogi Inn, had another restaurant called Chopin Mon Ami. Sounds as if he's merging the operations and hadn't quite finished the move yet. Leah Zeldes
