I'm from Chicago and only recently moved out here, so I can't recommend fries in this area. But for truly gourmet fries, my standard is Cross-Rhodes in Evanston, IL. These are large fresh-potato fries, and they've got lemon and oregano on them. Anyone headed to Northwestern in the fall, CR is near the corner of Chicago and Main. While you're at it, try the cucumber and tsatsiki salad. -Nick
