Believe it or not, just North of you (away from Highwood) is one of my favorite Italian Restaurants anywhere. It is Tratoria Giacoma and it located in the strip mall with Connor's Video North of the hotel.. Ask at the Hotel for the phone number as they usually require a reservation. It was a great neighborhood restaurant you could always get into until the Tribune gave it some well deserved accolades. A place well worth the effort.
