If you are in Chicago, take the elevated train up to Evanston and get off at the Main Street stop. Right across the street on the northeast corner is a Greek place called Cross-Rhodes. They do these wonderful big steak fries that are cooked until they're nice and crunchy, and then they soak them lightly in lemon juice and oregano. Really great! timburke@delphi

Sorry. When you're in Chicago, the best fries are at a place called the Doggie Diner on Armitage, just 3-4 blocks east of the Armitage "el" stop on the near north side. My friends and I have thought their fries are the best for many years, and this year, the New City newspaper confirmed it in a reader poll. Barry knoze fries. Barry Aldridge Hey, you kids, cut that out.
