The description of the Squab casserole that had crispy rice on the bottom lured me in. The squab was just ok, the rice on the bottom of the pot was not crisp and the rest of the meal was nothing to write home about. Not bad, just nothing to get excited about. My favorite Chinese restaurant in Chicago remains (Little) Three Happiness. While on the subject of crispy rice in casseroles, I went to the 24 hour Korean restaurant and had the beef and rice dish in the iron casserole that was mentioned in a post in chi.eats. It was very good and the rice was crispy. Korean restaurant has undergone a change for the better since I was there last, three years ago. It is much cleaner and the service and food were noticeably improved. The Phoenix, as far as Chinese restaurants go, has the best squab in the city. They marinate the legs and dry fry with a szechuan pepper, salt mixture and serve the breast in a stir-fry with the crispy, savory legs around the dish. Enjoy, Gary Good World 239 W.
