Good Sub Sandwich ?

The kind of place with crusty bread, and they > don't look at you cross eyed if you ask for capacole. Ya gotta plan ahead. Plan 1. Own a car. Get yourself down to Conti di Savoia, just east of Ashland on the north side of Taylor, 1438 West Taylor, to be precise. They are open till six during the week. Handy hint - free parking in the back, via the alley. Order up the sub of your choice, but ask them to put the wet stuff - giardinia, mayo, oil - in a side cup for you so when you eat the thing late at night, it won't be soggy. Of course, this plan only works if you can wait till late to eat it. Therefore, since you can't, buy two, one to eat immediately, and the other to eat later. My favorite is the Italian Special, darned if I know what all is in it but there's all sorts of good stuff. Plan 2. Now, since maybe you lack a car, be advised that Fontana's has a couple of places in the loop. One is on South Franklin, just north of Congress on the east side of the street. The other is on Lake, under the el. Once again, order up the sub of your choice, but ask them to put the wet stuff - giardinia, mayo, oil - in a cup for you so when you eat the thing late at night, it won't be soggy. This time, get extra giardinia. Of course, this plan also only works if you can wait till late to eat it. Therefore, since you still can't, buy two, one to eat immediately, and the other to eat later. My favorite remains the Italian Special.
